Reading

At Baddow Hall Infant School we teach the children to read through our daily phonics lessons, using the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised programme. The children have access to fully and part decodable books to support their phonics teaching, as well as books to share at home. When the children move into Year 2 they revise the Phase 5 teaching before moving onto the Little Wandle Spelling programme. This teaches them the spelling requirements of the National Curriculum.

We strongly encourage parents to read regularly with their children in order to support them in developing their reading skills, so that they become lifelong enthusiastic readers. The comments made by parents in children's reading diaries provide teachers with valuable information about children's reading at home.

Through our Every Child Reads Scheme children will be have motivated to read at home giving them the opportunity to reach the following awards: bronze, silver, gold, platinum, diamond and titanium.

Please see the document below to support you in helping your child to read and please do not hesitate to speak to your child's class teacher for more information.
